This image recently popped up during a routine inspiration search on my Pinterest feed, and I’d be lying if I said the Progresso ad wasn’t scroll-stopping.
While it’s true this doesn’t quite fall under the UX umbrella, I love that there is an abundance of attention to detail. First, the toppers concept is genius. It adds a little something to take your quick lunch from drab to fab, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a little crunch atop a yummy soup? I am so drawn to this solely because it’s clear Progresso wants to enhance your soup-snacking experience. They have considered every detail. Well, almost. If only it came with a eco-friendly, disposable spoon…
As it pertains to the ad itself, I commend the way this creates a correlation between a specific sku and a day of the work week. It suggests it’s solving a problem for you (anyone else struggle with lunch ideas?), while subtly promoting their product as a solution. It’s also fitting that this ad appeared on Pinterest given the platform is a hot spot for recipe ideas.
Consider this evidence that great marketing can be done in the simplest of fashions.
